Teacher & Arts in Ed

Chacho Ramirez As a Teaching Artist, Chacho has been actively teaching in public and private schools in New York and New Jersey for more than 10 years. Some of the classrooms have included special needs children; others have involved leading a full band, or a full percussion ensemble. Generally, however, the residencies are geared toward general classes and integrate with their current classroom curriculum.

Much of Chacho's work is done under the auspices of Young Audiences / New York, the City's oldest arts-in-education organization offering programs and services in music, dance, theater and the visual arts to students grades pre-K through 12.

Testimonials

"Berardo,
On behalf of Free Arts NYC and the children from the Little Sisters of the Assumption who attended the Free Arts Multicultural Arts Camp on July 13, 2005 in East Harlem, I would like to extend our sincerest thanks for all of your engaging music workshops! Both the children and the adults loved learning about Latin American music with you.

Every time I peeked in to see how things were going, everyone was smiling, laughing and making great music! You have a wonderful way with children, and it was a pleasure having you come and spend time with our kids."

"...I look forward to once again invite Mr. Ramirez as an artist-in-residence. His gifts in the field of music and his gifts of character - patience, forbearance, and skillfulness in working with small and large groups all serve to make him a valued teacher and artist, all in one package. Mr. Ramirez has the ability to fill any space - large or small - with much positive energy and a wealth of knowledge to match it."

"Mr. Ramirez took a group of students with greatly varying degrees of musical skill and experience, playing a mismatched bunch of instruments, and turned them into a real band that not only performed at their school but were asked to perform in public venues, such as the Puerto Rican Day parade. He went above and beyond his teaching commitment...Mr. Ramirez is a dedicated teacher and a superb artist and would be a valuable asset to the New York City public schools as a teacher and performer."
